Why photos end up rotated or mirrored
Phone cameras store an orientation tag (EXIF) that tells apps how to display a photo. When you move that photo between devices or apps, the tag is sometimes ignored, so the image appears sideways even though it looked fine on your phone. Rotating the image bakes the correct orientation into the pixels themselves, so it displays the same everywhere.
