About ImgScale
ImgScale is a free collection of in-browser image tools — an AI upscaler, a compressor, a format converter, resize, crop, rotate, an AI background remover, a watermarker, a meme generator, face blur, EXIF removal, and a Studio pipeline that chains them together. Sixteen of the seventeen tools run locally on your device; the AI upscaler uses our GPU server and deletes your photo right after processing. No signup and no cost.
Our mission
We believe everyday image tasks shouldn't require expensive software, an account, or handing your photos to a server. Our goal is to put a clean, fast set of image tools one click away, so a student, a small-business owner, or a hobbyist can enhance an image as easily as a professional designer.
How it works
Almost every tool on ImgScale runs entirely in your browser using web technologies like Canvas and on-device AI models — when you open one, any model it needs is downloaded once and cached, and your images are processed locally. The one exception is the AI upscaler: to deliver consistent Real-ESRGAN quality on any device, your photo is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our GPU server, enhanced, returned, and immediately deleted. It is never stored, shared, or used for training. You can read a deeper explanation of upscaling in our complete guide.
What you can do
- Upscale — enlarge and sharpen images up to 4× with AI or fast resampling, with batch support.
- Compress — reduce PNG, JPG, and WEBP file sizes with a live quality slider; batch to ZIP.
- Convert — change between PNG, JPG, and WEBP, in batches, with ZIP download.
- Resize — resize to exact pixels or ready-made social media presets.
- Crop — trim to any size or aspect ratio by dragging.
- Rotate & flip — turn images 90° or mirror them horizontally and vertically.
- Remove background — erase backgrounds automatically with in-browser AI.
- Watermark — add a text watermark with custom position and opacity.
- Meme generator — add classic top and bottom captions to any image.
- Blur faces — blur or pixelate faces and private areas.
- Remove EXIF — strip GPS, camera, and timestamp metadata from photos.
- Studio — chain multiple tools into a single visual pipeline and batch-process.
Privacy first
Because processing happens on your device, your images stay private by design. We don't store, upload, or train on your files. See our privacy policy for full details.
Why we built ImgScale
Most online image tools force you to upload your photos to a stranger's server, sit through ads before you can download, or hit a paywall at the worst moment. We wanted the opposite: tools that are genuinely free, respect your privacy, and just work. Because modern browsers can run real image processing — and even AI models — locally, we built the tools to run on your own device wherever possible — and where server power is genuinely needed (the AI upscaler), to delete your photo the moment processing finishes.
Who's behind ImgScale
ImgScale is built and run by kizura, an independent developer working solo. One person writes the code for every tool, runs the measurements you see in the guides, and reads every message sent through the contact page — so questions, bug reports, and corrections land directly with the person who can fix them. When a guide quotes a file size or a compression ratio, it comes from a test performed for this site, and the test images and settings are described alongside the numbers so you can reproduce them yourself.
How we keep it free
ImgScale is supported by unobtrusive advertising. There are no subscriptions, no account requirements, and no per-image limits. We don't sell data — in fact, since processing is local, we never receive your images in the first place.
Our commitment
- Privacy by design — local-first processing, immediate deletion on the upscale server, no tracking of your files.
- Always free — the core tools stay free to use, with no hidden limits.
- Honest about limits — AI results are reconstructions, not magic; we tell you when a tool can and can't help.
- Continuously improved — we refine the tools and models based on real user feedback.
Who we are
ImgScale is an independent project maintained by a small team of developers and designers who care about practical, no-nonsense tools. We continuously refine the interface and the underlying models based on user feedback.
How we create our guides and tools
Every tool on ImgScale is built and tested by our team and engineered privacy-first — we write the image-processing code ourselves rather than wrapping someone else's service. Before a tool ships, we test its core algorithm against real images to confirm it produces correct results.
Our written guides are created by the ImgScale team based on hands-on experience building and using these tools. We draft them to explain not just the steps but how the underlying process actually works — how AI upscaling reconstructs detail, why dithering reduces banding, what changes when you convert between formats. Where we use any automated assistance in drafting, a human on our team reviews and edits every guide for accuracy before it's published, and we update them as the tools change.
